Golf begins at 60!

The Seniors' Section was conceived in 1989, primarily to arrange competitive matches with other similar sections at neighbouring clubs.

Since then the Section has grown and now has a comprehensive range of activities to suit golfers over the age of 60, whatever their ability.

With around 70 like-minded members who all enjoy their golf and friendly banter, it all makes Wednesday mornings something to look forward to.

Between April and September there are alternate weekly home and away matches against the seniors of 12 other local golf clubs. With 20 players from each club playing fourball matchplay, followed by lunch and more of the obligatory banter, with the emphasis on friendship and enjoyment.

Throughout the year we also run a weekly 15 hole roll-up competition with the chance to win a first prize of a bottle of Scotch and a bottle of wine for a place, supported normally by anything from 20 - 40 members.

There is also the opportunity to join in smaller roll-ups on Monday, Friday and Sunday mornings if the weather and mood takes you.

We also hold five qualifying competitions for the benefit of our 5 day members who are unable to play in the Saturday club competitions for handicap purposes, and manage to squeeze in the occasional Texas Scramble and a very sociable match against the ladies. As if that weren't enough, we organise away days in the spring and autumn when we are able to obtain very economical prices.

As you can see we are an extremely active section. If you are 60 or over then you are most welcome to join us, not forgetting that this is in addition to all the other competitions, activities and social functions that are organised within the club should you wish to participate.
