I have only been a member of Hazel Grove Golf Club for a few months and all the time I have been here everyone has been very helpful and kind to me as I am still quite new to golf. I sometimes struggle but everyone helps me and encourages me to finish the round but it is not just the juniors that help me it’s also Kathie who puts a lot of effort into making the junior section what it is.

After a golfing break of over 15 years I decided to return to the passion of my youth. As a mature 57 year old, who still has the playing ambitions of a young Rory Mcllroy, it was important that I joined a club that could help me achieve these testing but realistic goals!!
A couple of friends, who are existing members of Hazel Grove, invited me down for a couple of rounds and I was immediately smitten. The course is beautiful and challenging.
James Rowlands – the Cub’s Professional, as well as being a brilliant teacher, is also supportive, enthusiastic and leads a team of friendly proactive assistants.
The Club’s off course facilities are brilliant; with practice bays, a practice field and of course, a beautiful clubhouse which has great bar and catering facilities.
However, what drew me to Hazel Grove Golf Club more than anything else was the friendliness and enthusiasm of all of the members. As a new member it could have been slightly daunting being introduced to all of these new faces; however, everyone I have met has been so welcoming and supportive in helping me return to the game I love.
As I hadn’t been a member of a club for many years, I was soon sorted out with a current handicap and, as they say, I was off and running! I joined the ‘Wednesday Section’ which is an amazing group of like spirited golfers in addition to joining in with the mixed competitions which was a great way of meeting other members – especially in the bar afterwards! As a new member the online tee booking system enabled me to book tee times with the players I already know as well as filling in spaces to meet new players.……when I wasn’t sure what to do or who to approach – James the Professional or his Team in the Pro-shop would always help me sort out a tee time.
In short, and as cliché as it may sound, I couldn’t have made a better choice of Golf Club in the Stockport area. Since joining 10 months ago I have improved my golf and reduced my handicap, I’ve done well in competitions, been asked to play on the ‘Friendly Team’ against other local clubs and introduced my 20 year old daughter, Gina, to the’ Get into Golf’ group lessons which James runs on Saturday morning.
More than anything else though, I have made literally dozens of new friends – both young and like myself more mature (I refuse to use the word old). Everyone always has time for you.
If you think it’s all too good to be true, get in touch and we can have a chat over a coffee or even better a round of golf!
