My chosen charity for this year is The Christie Charity. I think it’s fair to say that, along the way, most of us have been touched by family members, relatives, close friends and neighbours who have been affected by this disease in one way or another.
The Christie Charity raises money for a range of projects and initiatives focusing on 4 main areas, research, care and treatment, education and extra patient services, all of which are above and beyond what the NHS provide enabling them to give their patients the best care and treatment possible.
From providing continuous funding for the Cancer Information Centre and Wig Service, helping patients and their families cope with the effects of the treatment, to raising money for new and major developments, including the Proton Beam Therapy Centre and Integrated Procedures Unit. There is more information regarding these on their website.
I’ve decided against doing raffles at every presentation but, instead, would like to ask everyone for a small (or large) donation, the amount of which is up to yourselves. If you’re happy with this request, please put your donation in an envelope clearly marked LVC Charity and put it in the competitions box. I will however, hold various fundraising events throughout the year, obviously on my Charity Day, at our Opens and by selling cakes at the hut, so ladies – yet again – your cake making skills are still required please!
Charitable donations are absolutely essential in enabling the ground breaking work to continue so I appreciate any help I can get for this great cause. Each and every pound you donate will make a real difference to the level of care and support given to patients and their families.
I hope this meets with your approval and that we can look forward to some fun next year raising money for this great charity. THANK YOU.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to wish the Lady Captain and all our members a great year ahead.
