The Lady Vice Captain’s Charity for this year will be split between the Motor Neurone Disease and the Ladies Locker Fund. It will definitely be a case of Charity Begins at Home.
Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
This terrible disease has recently taken one of our popular and valued members, Bernard Brackett. Another member has a son who is also living with the daily challenges of this disease. MND can be a very progressive disease which attacks the motor neurones, the brain or the spinal cord. This means that messages stop reaching muscles which lead to weakness and wasting. MDN can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms happen to everyone at the same time or in any order. There is no cure for MND. Symptoms can be managed to help with the quality of life, but when you have been an active person, this can be one of the worst possible diseases to attack. It can end where there is only the brain functioning, even eyes need drops because the eyelids won’t close any more.
Unless you have been involved in MND you cannot believe the changes that can take place in such a short period of time.
Any support will help the MND Association to improve care, research and raise awareness about this devastating disease.
Ladies Locker Fund (Damsels in Distress)
The Ladies Lockers definitely need bringing into the 21st Century – functionality is key! For most of us the lockers are just too small to house a full set of clubs which is why, as part of my charity this year, I’d like to start an improvement fund. Once the funds start to build, we will start plans to develop this project. If you have any bright ideas on how to help fund this project, please let me know. By making these improvements we are investing in the future of our club so thank you.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to wish the Lady Captain and all our members a great year ahead both in golfing and in health.
